Fitting Fire into Oak Management

Dr. Patrick H. Brose, Research Forester
Sustaining Forests in a Changing Environment

In the past decade, eastern land managers have significantly increased the use of prescribed fire to regenerate mixed oak forests. Sometimes, this use is successful while othertimes the fires fail to meet the regeneration objective. This webcast session presents some of the most important research findings in the context of even-aged development of oak stands and the oak regeneration process so land managers can know when prescribed fire is appropriate and inappropriate for oak regeneneration purposes.
