Improving Forest Inventory and Monitoring Capacity in Countries of the World

Year: 2013

Efficient national and subnational level inventory and monitoring systems are needed to characterize carbon and other attributes of forests so that people can become better stewards of their lands. The National Inventory and Monitoring Applications Center (NIMAC) of the Forest Service's Forest Inventory and Analysis Program has developed science-based techniques and software, and is facilitating development of national forest inventory systems by working with forested countries in the tropics. NIMAC scientists also work with the National Forest System and state governments to apply the tools to design inventory systems to meet their specialized needs.
