Current Research

I am currently involved in research to identify the relationships between watersheds and water quality. This research includes modeling the relationship between forest cover and disturbance on water quality in the Great Lakes basin, and the potential change in future water quality due to climate change and human development of the landscape.

Why is This Important

Better understanding of the interactions between the watershed and water quality will lead to enhanced and more effective management of the landscape to protect and improve water quality.

Future Research

I am interested in finding new ways to utilize Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data products to better understand aquatic ecosystems and water quality. Areas of interest include:

  1. Characterization of Lake Superior watersheds identified for walleye habitat rehabilitation using FIA forest composition and forest disturbance datasets.
  2. Watershed classification and indicator development using FIA forest products to identify areas contributing to water quality and fish habitat degradation.
  3. Influence of forest disturbance on the water quality of inland lakes in the Great Lakes states.
