Biology and Ecology

[photo:] Studying the biology of eabWhen eab was discovered in North America, little was known about it beyond taxonomic descriptions and a few paragraphs published in Chinese reference books.  A thorough understanding of eab biology and ecology is essential for the development of effective management strategies.  Studies have been conducted to describe the life cycle and seasonal development of eab in North America.  Research is also underway to determine its host range, host preferences and interactions with host trees and other insects.  Studies are also being conducted on symbiotic microorganisms, mating behaviors, genetics and location of origin, and factors that influence development and fecundity.
